Liaison with Government Bodies

AGC of Mississippi members are involved at all levels of the political process. AGC serves as a resource for information on government regulations and legal issues affecting not only our businesses, but those we serve. AGC has an extensive grass roots network, one-on-one contact with elected representatives and strong ties with the Legislature and the executive branch. AGC's pursuit of government construction program funds is effective in delivering a multi-million dollar construction market.


Political Action Committee (PAC)

The AGC-PAC is a voluntary, non-profit, unincorporated organization that desires to promote the construction industry, free enterprise, and the economic health of Mississippi and her citizens.

As you know, political campaigns are very expensive, and many good candidates have difficulty raising enough money to make themselves and their positions known. The Mississippi AGC-PAC is committed,to influencing Mississippi public policy by identifying those candidates that would better serve the interests of our local construction industry.

AGC members exercise their political strength through the PAC and the Mississippi AGC-PAC is helping to make a difference.


Workers' Compensation Insurance
Comptrust AGC of Mississippi

The AGC of Mississippi's self-insurance fund, Comptrust AGC of Mississippi was formed in 1991 in order to provide a cost effective means of Workers' Comp Insurance to AGC of Mississippi members. Its operation has been a tremendous membership recruitment tool for the AGC of Mississippi. A firm must be affiliated with the chapter in order to participate in the fund.

Presently, the fund insures over 200 contracting firms conducting business within the State of Mississippi.

Job Site Safety Training - First Aid & CPR

AGC of Mississippi provides job site training. Some of the training topics include: First Aid & CPR, Fall Protection, Hazard Communication, Personal Protective Equipment, Trenching & Excavating, Back Injury Prevention, Scaffolding, Ladders, Drug Awareness, Housekeeping, Job Safety Analysis, Accident Investigations, Fleet Safety, Crane & Rigging Safety and Job Site Inspections.

Continuing Education Seminars

Continuing Education Units - The Associated General Contractors of Mississippi periodically offers a series of seminars that will enable members to gain continuing education units.

Accident & Safety Investigation Seminars - These informative seminars consist of procedural information on the proper way to fill out claim forms and investigations for pre and post accident injuries.


Plan Room Services: Jackson - Gulfport

The AGC of Mississippi operates full-service plans rooms in Jackson and on the Gulf Coast which cover virtually every construction need in Mississippi. Our plans rooms provide a clearinghouse for the competitive bidding of projects, encouraging competition and reduced construction costs to government as well as private owners.

The plans on file are available for member use and are also available for overnight use. Both plans rooms have blueprint machines along with copiers which make it easy for contractors to do estimating in the convenience of their own offices. A weekly Construction Report is distributed to all AGC members which contains up to date bid information on all of the projects out for bids in our plans rooms. It also contains news from the industry, including apparent low bidders and contracts that have been awarded. This report will also be contained in our web site. The information will be updated on a daily basis so that you will be able to access it for even more up to date coverage.


School to Work - Training Programs

Today, the most important need of the construction industry is education, and the industry's most serious problem is the lack of a qualified work force. In order to address these problems the AGC of Mississippi joined with other construction related associations to create the School to Work Program for Construction.

The immediate advantages of this new program are:

1. Construction industry's direct involvement in Industry skill needs.
   
2. Standardized training which will be used on a global level.
   
3. Early career selection.
   
4. Higher entry level into the industry upon graduation.

Industry Knowledge & Problem Solving

Mississippi AGC cooperates with architects, engineers and all industry interests to coordinate resources and share information benefiting the construction team. AGC promotes fair and honorable dealings with the owners of construction projects. AGC promotes free and unrestricted access to all construction markets. AGC promotes the use of single contract method construction, the most efficient and economical system of awarding construction contracts.

AGC works to develop good relations between members and their employees, to provide safe working conditions on construction projects and to promote safe working habits. AGC works to stimulate new construction markets and to create new jobs.
